On November 19th, we celebrated the first annual American Made Matters Day with business colleagues and friends at a special event hosted by The Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce.  Hearing the stories told by successful American manufacturing entrepreneurs was truly inspiring.  It makes one feel that we can do this; we can get our economy out of this slump by purchasing things made in the USA.

Recent data claims that if every American increased their spending on American-Made products by just 5%, we would add 1 million jobs to the economy.  Now that is a true cause
and effect. So, during this holiday shopping season focus on American-made gifts.   Doing our part is as simple as looking at the labels before you buy or using one of the many websites
that specialize in U.S. made products.

One statistic cited by American Made Matters notes that, for every $1 that US manufacturers spend, another $1.40 of economic activity is created.  This multiplier is much greater than any other sector of our economy.   Consumers need to be educated about the provenance of the products they purchase and how their choices impact the American economy.
